How opt-outs work
Updated Oct 21, 2026
People can stop automatic messages from your account at any time. Auto Reply enforces it, and you can’t switch it off.
The words that opt someone out
The whole message has to match one of the words: STOP, STOPALL, UNSUBSCRIBE, CANCEL, END, QUIT or OPT OUT, plus common words in other languages. A longer message such as “cancel my order” does not count.
In a conversation that uses AI, a clear request like “stop messaging me” counts too.
What happens next
- The person gets one confirmation: “You will not get automatic messages from @account anymore. Reply START to resume.”
- From then on, that account sends them no automatic direct messages, from any flow.
- Anything that was waiting for their reply is cancelled.
- Public replies to their comments are not affected.
Starting again
Only the person can turn messages back on, by sending START, UNSTOP, RESUME or SUBSCRIBE. You can’t resubscribe someone for them.
What you can change
- Add your own opt-out words. The default ones can’t be removed.
- Record an opt-out for someone who asked somewhere else, and undo it if you made a mistake.
- Change the wording of the confirmation. It has to keep the way to resume, and it can’t include marketing.
Opt-outs are handled before any flow runs, so they never count as executions. What counts as an execution
